The Hampshire Recorder Sinfonia

Recorder Sinfonia

It is unfortunate that schools choose to give childen an introduction into the world of orchestral music through the teaching of the recorder. Dating back at least as far as the 14th century and used by composers such as Purcell and Bach, the modern view of this venerale wind instrument is nothing more than of out-of-tune six year olds hammering away at Frère Jacques or London's Burning.

In order to address this, several recorder specific orchestras exist in the UK and we are pleased to have one of the best in the local area. The Hampshire Recorder Sinfonia, under the direction of Christopher Burgess, want to change the popular attitude towards the recorder and have it taken as a serious instrument with the orchestra covering the wide range of recorders from the 9" Soprano to the 6' Contrabass.

An enjoyable night out for all those who enjoy good music in peaceful surroundings!
